Family Session Guide

Family photos are meant to feel natural, relaxed, and fun. You don't need to know how to pose or worry about getting everyone to look at the camera — I will guide you through it all.

BEFORE YOUR SESSION

Plan your outfits together.
Choose coordinating colors and textures rather than matching everyone exactly. Neutrals, soft earth tones, denim, creams, muted blues, greens, and warm browns photograph beautifully.

Keep it comfortable.
Especially for little ones! Choose clothing they can move, play, and sit comfortably in. Avoid anything that needs constant adjusting.

Consider the location.
Your shoes should be appropriate for the setting. If we'll be outdoors, expect a little walking, grass, dirt, or uneven ground.

Don't stress about perfection.
A little wind, messy hair, or a child who needs a break is completely normal. Some of the best images happen in the in-between moments.

WHAT TO WEAR - A FEW EASY GUIDELINES

  • Start with one outfit you love and build everyone else's outfits around it.

  • Coordinate colors without wearing identical outfits.

  • Mix textures—knits, linen, denim, sweaters, dresses, and layers add visual interest.

  • Avoid large logos, neon colors, and distracting patterns.

  • Timeless clothing usually photographs better than trendy pieces.

  • Dresses and skirts add beautiful movement to photos.

  • Bring a layer or backup outfit for young children if needed.

  • When in doubt, keep it simple.
Soft, neutral, coordinated colors create a timeless look and keep the focus on your family.

DURING YOUR SESSION

We'll start with some easy, traditional portraits and then move into more natural interactions. I'll give you prompts and direction throughout the session so you never have to wonder what to do.

Expect to: walk • snuggle • play • laugh • dance • tickle • explore

Your children don't need to sit still or smile on command. Let them be themselves! I'll capture their personalities along the way.

Parents: Your job is simply to connect with your family. I'll take care of the rest.

A FEW THINGS TO BRING

☐ Snacks & water for little ones
☐ A brush or comb
☐ Tissues/wipes
☐ Extra clothes for young children
☐ Any meaningful item you'd like incorporated into the photos

If bringing snacks, try to avoid anything messy or brightly colored.

WEATHER & RESCHEDULING

Outdoor sessions sometimes require flexibility. If the weather isn't cooperating, I'll be in touch to discuss options and determine whether we should continue, adjust the session time, or reschedule.

Please don't worry about making that call on your own. I'll keep an eye on the forecast and communicate with you.

AFTER YOUR SESSION

I'll carefully select and edit the best images from your session. Your final gallery will be delivered through an online gallery where you can view, download, and share your images.

Most importantly, enjoy the experience. Your family doesn't have to be perfectly behaved or perfectly posed. The goal is to capture the connection, personalities, and little moments that make your family yours.
